The Bulletin & our exhibition in the Ho Chi Minh City Fine Art Museum

In the previous bulletin you could read about the wonderful film "The Quiet American" , Prof. John Kleinen, who wrote many books about Vietnam, sent us a link to a detailed article he wrote about the many films made about the U.S. Vietnam War . You can find it here Leidschrift.

.John Kleinen is also co-author of the very interesting book "Lion and Dragon" on the Vietnamese - Dutch historical relationship. The contribution of Hoang Anh Tuan in this publication, described how in 1640 the Dutch VOC in Ha Noi had a Factory. The article contains also an old map. Our correspondent Huyen Dao went looking in current Ha Noi where the factory was placed. Here you can read her story: A bit history

Visual artist Hetty van der Kloot describes how some of her work was influenced by her travels through Vietnam. My first visits.

Tranh Phuong Trinh was during her visit to the Netherlands invited by the editors of 'Encanta ' (of the Amersfoort radio broadcasting the "Golfbreker") to tell about Vietnam and its music. Her story can not only be read in this bulletin, you can also hear the whole radio show on You Tube . Vietnamese music

Hetty is one of the artists who will participate in our exhibition in the 'Ho Chi Minh City Fine Art Museum' . This will be a bit of a special exhibition and that has everything to do with Vietnam itself. Who visits Vietnam notes very quickly how everybody is interested in what you do and where you come from, they have so many questions. First come the standard questions , but soon the real ones. The country has been isolated for a long time and all those years the amount of questions was only growing. This is especially true for artists who are very interested in the artistic life of the West. Unfortunately visiting Netherlands for example, this is for most of them not feasible. But if they cannot come here, we should go over there with a nice selection of art!

When we visit another country, we do not just go to the museums, there you will see especially the typical art you find in museums, while it so exciting to see also other kind of work. Work in small but interesting art galleries. There hangs the experimental work that does not always can be seen in museums, work that is often made because of passion instead of commercial considerations.

We do not just bring a broad overview of what kind of art is made today in the Netherlands, our exhibition is also an invitation for Vietnamese artists. We expect that it will have many contacts as a result. Something that already has started because several artists will come to Vietnam and they are looking for contacts, and some contacts are already made. There will be also Vietnamese artists invited to present their work at the exhibition, and some artists will be invited to join Dutch artists to make the work together for the exhibition. And we're going to assist the Vietnamese artists we will meet during this exhibition, with making contacts in the Netherlands and other places.

The interest for MeetingPoint project in Vietnam itself, begins to increase more and more, with the result that there will be activities not only in Ho Chi Minh City, but also in Ha Noi and in Danang ..... and who knows ...

Auction

some of the works for the auction.

The project is funded entirely by the participants themselves, although we do not expect to sell a lot in Vietnam, lucky there are several companies and organizations that support us, but nevertheless there are many expenses to be incurred . To cover these costs, we organize an auction , for this there's work available made by several participants. Until the end of November you can bid on this work, you certainly should do because there are wonderful works you possibly can acquire for a nice price . Here you can see the works auction site te gaan:

Wants to paticipate?
It is not yet known how much work the different participants will submit. When they all are submitting three or more works, than we're full, but a few participants we submit just a single work, so there is probably still the possibility to join , but you should not wait to sign up .
